SUMMER 2026 POST RESULTS SERVICES
If you believe that your examination result does not accurately reflect your performance and wish to challenge the outcome of an individual paper, you may request a review of marking by the relevant awarding body. The awarding bodies train their reviewers to conduct reviews of marking accurately and consistently. Reviewers will not re-mark the script, they will only act to correct any errors identified in the original marking. Only those marks that are the result of a genuine marking error, not a difference in judgement, will be changed.
The majority of reviews of marking requests do not result in a change to a grade, simply because the review of marking has shown that the original grade was accurate. However, it is possible that your grade and/or marks could go up, go down or stay the same.
Services should be ordered using the form here: https://forms.cloud.microsoft/e/4dH3ernqcq
- Submit one form per subject.
- Forms must be submitted by candidates, not parents/guardians.
- Payment must be made in advance. Please note that fees are charged per paper or unit, not per subject.
- Requests for services cannot be taken over the telephone, via email or in person.
- Deadlines are fixed.
- Non-Examination Assessments (i.e., course work or practical components) are not eligible for individual review.
Services Available
Clerical check (service EAR1) Deadline: 11th September 12:30pm
This service will include the following checks:
- that all parts of the script have been marked;
- the totalling of marks;
- the recording of marks.
The deadline for completion is within 10 calendar days of the awarding body receiving the request.
Review of marking (service EAR2) Deadline: 11th September 12:30pm
This is a post-results review of the original marking to ensure that the mark scheme has been applied correctly. Reviewers will not re-mark the script. They will only act to correct any errors identified in the original marking. A marking error can occur because of:
- an administrative error;
- a failure to apply the mark scheme where a task has only a ‘right’ or ‘wrong’ answer;
- an unreasonable exercise of academic judgement.
The exams office cannot advise students on subject specific information such as which paper to have reviewed. Students should seek advice from their subject teacher before proceeding with a review.
The deadline for completion is within 20 calendar days of the awarding body receiving the request.
Priority review of marking (service EAR2P) Not available for GCSE. Deadline: 19th August 12:30pm
A priority review is a quicker service for students whose place at a university or other higher educational institution depends on the outcome. You are strongly advised to contact your university to notify them that a review of results has been requested. By informing them, they may be able to keep your place open until the review has been completed. Reviewers will not re-mark the script. They will only act to correct any errors identified in the original marking.
An awarding body will not inform UCAS or others that a review of marking has been requested. However, it will advise UCAS of any grade change following a review.
Full details on the guidance provided by UCAS may be found at: https://www.ucas.com/undergraduate/results-confirmation-and-clearing/results/exam-reviews-and-appeals
The deadline for completion is within 15 calendar days of the awarding body receiving the request.
Priority copy of a marked paper (service ATSP) Deadline: 19th August 12:30pm for GCE
This is a photocopy of the marked exam paper that you can use to decide whether to request a review of marking or a clerical check. DO NOT request if your place at university is dependent on the outcome of a review, go straight to priority review.
The following information explains what may happen following an enquiry about a result and any subsequent appeal.
If your school or college makes an enquiry about a result and a subsequent appeal of one of your examinations after your subject grade has been issued, there are three possible outcomes:
- Your original mark is lowered, so your final grade may be lower than the original grade you received.
- Your original mark is confirmed as correct, so there is no change to your grade.
- Your original mark is raised, so your final grade may be higher than the original grade you received.

Appeals (Post EARs)
This service is available only after an EAR has been completed and after the review outcome for marking or moderation has been issued. Requests must comply with strict internal deadlines to enable timely submission in line with awarding body/exam board requirements.
Appeals after an EAR (review of marking, re moderation or clerical check) can only be applied for in consultation with the Headteacher, and the grounds for appeal must be clearly set out. Please email exams@herschel.slough.sch.uk in the first instance.
Appeals should focus on whether an awarding body has:
- Used procedures that were consistent with regulatory requirements.
- Applied its procedures properly and fairly in arriving at judgements.
- Properly applied the mark scheme.
Awarding bodies charge a fee for appeals.
