Main School Production
A biannual event where all students have the opportunity to audition and participate in this whole school project. There are opportunities to also participate as part of the Tech-Team, learning how to work backstage, operate lighting and sound as well as support with costume, hair, makeup, set and prop design. Previous productions have included “The Wizard of Oz” (2023), “A Christmas Carol” (2018), “Alice in Wonderland” (2017).
Coram Shakespeare Schools Festival
Coram Shakespeare Schools Foundation is a project run bi-annually at HGS where students get the opportunity to perform Shakespeare on a professional stage. Support is given through professional actor and director workshops and is a fabulous opportunity for students to network with other schools involved. Our most recent production was of Macbeth, directed by Year 12 student Sethan Yohananthan. It was performed at Watersmeet Theatre in Rickmansworth. For more information please go to https://www.shakespeareschools.org. In previous years we have also taken part in National Theatre Connections (https://www.nationaltheatre.org.uk/learn-explore/young-people/connections ) and the National Theatre New Views course for young scriptwriters ( https://www.nationaltheatre.org.uk/learn-explore/schools/new-views/)
Theatre trips
The Drama Department runs a variety of theatre trips throughout the year. Some of our most recent have included “Everyone’s Talking about Jamie”, “Blood Brothers”, “The Woman in Black” and Frantic Assembly’s “Metamorphosis”.
Year 9 Arts Faculty trip to Cornwall
The Year 9 Arts Faculty trip is one of the most coveted trips to be on at HGS. Here students get the opportunity to spend four nights in Cornwall and participate in a variety of watersports activities including surfing, bodyboarding, paddleboarding, kayaking and coasteering. This is complemented alongside Art, Music and Drama activities such as theatre trips, sculpture workshops and musical workshops.
