During January, 51 of our Year 8 girls participated in the CyberFirst Girls Competition, organised by the National Cyber Security Centre. 14 teams from Herschel took part, and our top scoring team was invited to take part in the semi-finals at IBM in Winchester on Saturday 8th Feb – an impressive feat given the 750+ schools and over 9000 girls who participated.
Having learned about careers surrounding cyber security from a range of motivational employees of IBM, the girls competed in challenges about Cryptography, Networking, Cybersecurity and Logic and Coding. On the day, they competed against 24 schools from the South East region, and managed to battle their way to the top spot – securing a place in the Grand Final!
They will be off to Cardiff in March to compete against 9 other top teams from across the UK!
