Curriculum Overview

Pupils will undertake assignments based upon analysing existing products as the starter for developing design specifications leading to designing, modelling and testing improved/enhanced versions of the products.

It is a design/graphics-based course, requiring the use of C.A.D./C.A.M., working in materials such as card, polystyrene, plastics and timbers. Industrial manufacturing techniques are incorporated into all assignments.

Assessment Procedures

An extended piece of research, design and make coursework completed over 40 hours : 60%

Written examination : 40%

After KS4/Future Careers

This is ideal preparation for those wishing to study 'A' level Design and Technology and/or considering careers in engineering, manufacturing, art and design, architecture and industrial design.
