A group of Year 12 and 13 girls attended a very inspiring session at the Mars HQ in Slough on Thursday 8th March to mark International Women’s Day. The event was organised by staff from Mars, but we were lucky to be invited by Nancy Lalor from Learning to Work, with whom we collaborate frequently in our careers and work-related learning. The event also took place within National Careers Week.
A panel of women from all levels of the Mars company discussed the workplace challenges they face on a day to day basis, but also the way in which they rise above those challenges and the ways in which Mars as a company helps them to do so. In addition, there was much discussion of what women bring to the company. There was inspiration, amusement and very serious debate in pretty much equal measure – all in all a fascinating insight into the world of work at this major Slough employer.
We all left feeling very positive about the future!
