Mrs E Callender (Head of Department)
This first half term of the year finds the Drama Department at its busiest! Rehearsals are well underway for this year’s Main School Production of A CHRISTMAS CAROL and what with the full day Saturday rehearsal last weekend I am pleased to say that the cast are working hard and the show is coming together beautifully. This is definitely Herschel’s spookiest show yet! Tickets will go on sale on the first day back after half term and all are welcome to come along to performances Wednesday 14th – Friday 16th November at 7pm in the school hall. A Parentmail letter is coming out soon to advise on how to purchase tickets.
Meanwhile Drama’s annual submission to Shakespeare Schools Festival is preparing to perform a 30 minute version of William Shakespeare’s TWELFTH NIGHT, this year directed by Year 13 student Jennifer Canali. This has also been the first year that the show has also been performed to Year 7 & 8 students – an event we hope to continue in future years. Herschel students will be heading to South Hill Park Arts Centre in Bracknell this Thursday to perform and we hope they break lots of legs! Auditions for next year’s submission will take place in July 2019.
I am pleased to announce that the annual Arts Faculty trip to Newquay has been offered to Year 9 students during Activities Week and will offer them an opportunity to try out a variety of activities including surfing, bodyboarding, kayaking, coasteering and sculpting. The deadline for the deposit is Wednesday 31st October.
Another up-and-coming trip being offered to Year 9 students is to go and see “The Woman in Black” in London in preparation for their study of the performance in Drama. Cleverly executed by only three actors I am sure the students will find this a fascinating yet chilling experience.
Other up-and-coming trips for next term will also include a KS4 trip to see Willy Russell’s BLOOD BROTHERS at the New Wimbledon Theatre as well as a trip to see WICKED in London which will be open to all years groups (limited availability).
I want to thank you all for your continued support with the Drama Department and hope to see you in November at A CHRISTMAS CAROL.
